Provincetown, Massachusetts [May 12, 2009] – Fenway Health and Girl Power Events invite women to come “rock the boat” for the first Women’s Party Cruise Memorial Day Weekend.

Departing from the end of MacMillan Wharf in Provincetown, the Party Cruise fundraiser is scheduled to set sail on Saturday, May 23 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. aboard Bay State Cruise Company’s, Provincetown II. The three-deck boat is big enough for both a top-deck dance party and those looking for afternoon mixing and mingling on the waters of Provincetown Bay. The event will include a dance party, an auction with fabulous items including an Olivia Trip for 2, and hundreds of happy women.

A line-up of star-studded cruisers includes celebrity guests Suzanne Westenhoefer, ALL THE KINGS MEN performance troupe, Poppy Champlin, Lizzie Borden, Gloria Bigelow, Jackie Monahan, Amy Tee, Chantal Carrere – and the stars and producers of the new lesbian web series Anyone But Me (www.anyonebutmeseries.com) in their first-ever public appearance.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.fenwayhealth.org/girlpartycruise. Check-in opens at 11:30 a.m.; boarding begins at 12:30 p.m. Cruisers must be 21 or older to attend.

The cruise will raise money for Boston-based Fenway Women’s Health Programs where the health care needs of all women, especially lesbians, bisexual and transgender women, is an integral part of their mission. Fenway provides supportive and sensitive care regardless of a woman’s sexual orientation, gender identity, age, race, religion, or ability to pay.
Discrimination in the health care system and social stigma often make LBT women hesitant to seek or continue medical care. Fenway Health provides high-quality primary medical and behavioral health care in a safe, affirming environment.

“While there have been many Ptown cruises throughout the years for the boys, there’s never been a Boat Cruise for women,” said Lynette Molnar, Girl Power Events powerhouse. “Picture this: We’ll have an all-women afternoon dance party on the water, plus a passenger list full of nationally known stars from our community, while we’re raising money for Fenway’s important work. It’s a party with a purpose on the water!”

In addition to making an appearance on the boat, Anyone But Me’s creators Susan Miller (The L Word and thirtysomething) and Tina Cesa Ward (award-winning filmmaker,) and the series lead stars Rachael Hip-Flores (Vivian) and Nicole Pacent (Aster), will also be appearing at a free screening and Talk Back the UU Meeting House, 236 Commercial Street, Saturday May 23 at 8 p.m. Anyone But Me, a new Web-based episodic series, premiered on StrikeTV last December. Episodes can be viewed at www.AnythingButMeSeries.com

The cruise is co-sponsored by Olivia, ProvincetownForWomen.com, LesbianNightLife.com, The Women Innkeepers of Provincetown, AlicesChart.com, Bay Windows, Boston Spirit Magazine, MyFandoms.com and the Anyone But Me series.

About Fenway Health
For nearly forty years, Fenway Health has been working to improve the physical and mental health of its community, especially those who are traditionally underserved like lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, women, those living with HIV/AIDS, and people from communities of color. The Fenway Institute works to increase the health of the larger community through research and evaluation, education, outreach and health policy advocacy. More at www.fenwayhealth.org .

About Lynette Molnar and Girl Power Events
Lynette Molnar, producer of Girl Power Events, has a passion for social issues that’s compelled her to create hundreds of events for the community, many of then “firsts,” including the first-ever gay and lesbian holiday festival, Holly Folly; Single Women’s Weekend; Women of Color Weekend; Girl Splash: The Summer Women’s Party and The Kiss-In; among many others. Molnar also contributes to the community through her volunteer work with The Human Rights Campaign, GLAD, NCLR, Fenway Health, and The Task Force. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including The Task Force’s Community Service Award and the Greater Boston Business Counsel Small Business Award.

http://www.girlpowerevents.com/kisspress.php

Provincetown – (September 30, 2004) Massachusetts, the state that became the first in the Union to end discrimination by allowing same-sex marriage, is set to make history again. Women planning to attend the 20th Annual Women’s Week in Provincetown, Massachusetts are limbering up their lips for a mass kissing session that will set the first Guinness World Record for number of women kissing at once.

Girl Power Events and The Women Innkeepers of Provincetown are inviting women to smooch simultaneously for 12 seconds as the Provincetown Town Hall clock chimes high noon on Saturday, October 16th, 2004. Women will begin gathering in front of Town Hall at 11:30AM for the noon kiss. This landmark event, the first of its kind, will be followed by a group commitment ceremony inside Town Hall.

The Kiss-In is the brainchild of Provincetown event organizer and innkeeper Lynette Molnar who has had her mind set on establishing this record for some time. “Provincetown has long been a town of firsts for the gay and lesbian community, so it is only appropriate that the record be established here on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of Women’s Week,” Molnar, the event’s spokesperson. Molnar planned the Kiss-In to mark the special Anniversary of Women’s Week, an annual gathering of lesbians that started as a short weekend 20 years ago with 250 attendees and has grown into a 10 day event that attracts thousands of women from across the country and around the world.

Lesbian residents of Provincetown who have recently married will boost the attempt on the world record by leading the Kiss-In. Since May 17th thousands of couples in cities and towns across Massachusetts have legally married. However, Governor Mitt Romney is attempting to enforce the 1913 “Reverse Evasion” law denying marriage licenses to out-of-state couples. Provincetown is lead plaintiff in a 12-town suit seeking to overturn the 1913 statute under which the Commonwealth is seeking to deny issuance of marriage licenses to out-of-state same-sex couples not intending to reside in Massachusetts.

After the Kiss-In, those not residing, or intending to reside in Massachusetts, are invited to participate in a group Commitment Ceremony in Town Hall. “Marriage rights are civil rights,” said Molnar. “And the joys of a public wedding as a chance to honor significant relationships is as important to lesbians as they are to any heterosexual couple. On October 16th, we will offer our respect and validation to hundreds of women, acknowledging the tremendous bonds of love and commitment they share.”

Lynette Molnar: Provincetown’s Superwoman
by Larita M. Heet, Editor of Jane and Jane Magazine
As excerpted from the May/June 2008 Issue

When Lynette Molnar, lesbian entrepreneur extraordinaire, was honored as one of Provincetown’s “Superwomen” by Provincetown Magazine a couple of years ago, it was no surprise to anyone in P-Town, where “Molnar” is synonymous with “amazing”. Molnar is not merely an entrepreneur, but also a successful, talented photographer, an activist, an event planner and creator, and a marketing guru. Molnar’s passion for the LGBT community has led her to create many now-infamous Ptown events, including Single Women’s Weekend, Women of Color and Allies Weekend, Women’s Week, the “Kiss-In”, and Girl Splash, a new summer event in Provincetown.

If you’re like me, just reading about those activities was enough to make you winded. But for Molar, those achievements are just the tip of the superwoman’s iceberg. She has also co-curated the first international art exhibition on AIDS, and founded a San Francisco photography mentoring program for homeless youth, which is now in its twelfth year. Actively involved in local town boards and advocacy groups, Molnar is also a volunteer with many charitable organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign, Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, National Center for Lesbian Rights and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Molnar has received myriad honors and awards, including a National Endowment for the Arts photography fellowship, four Ohio Arts Council individual artists fellowships, two Greater Boston Business Council small business leadership awards, and NGLTF’s community service award.

Her business strategy? Simple, she says. “Figure out what’s missing in the world, and then create it.”

Molnar’s goals — both personal and professional — are clearly defined, a fact that is hardly surprising for the woman who was instrumental in leading the fight, in 1996, for Provincetown to support lesbian and gay tourism. “My professional goals are two-fold: First, as it always has been — to keep creating community for women and [second] to have as many lesbians experience Provincetown as possible. You shouldn’t die without having been here at least once,” she says. “My personal goal is to somehow be with the love of my life for the rest of my life.”

You cannot miss the depth of emotion Molnar conveys when speaking of her lover, the woman she calls her inspiration. “My lover is exceedingly creative, generous, and a genius,” she says.

Molnar offers Jane and Jane readers some unusual – but obviously effective — business advice. “Two things: Pick something you love to do so that even if you’re working 16 hours a day, it won’t feel like work. My second suggestion is somewhat unconventional as business advice: Pick someone to love who fits the equation: 1 + 1 = 3. Stay lovers and, among other things, you will always have a muse.

Sounds like Superwoman has met her match.

New York Begins to Alter Policy on Gay Marriage Gov. David A. Paterson has directed all state agencies to begin to revise their policies and regulations to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions, like Massachusetts, California and Canada. In a directive the governor’s legal counsel, David Nocenti, instructed the agencies that gay couples married elsewhere “should be afforded the same recognition as any other legally performed
union.”

Hi there–

Spread the word and forward widely… this talk was an amazing and
courageous one that really is applicable to all genders…

Consider viewing the below web page to view the video archive and
power point presentation from Ben Barres talk on “The Dearth of Women
in Science”.
http://www.memdir.org/video/ben-barres-dearth-of-women-in-science.html

This web page is an archive of a talk that took place on 3/17/08 at
Harvard University. Ben Barres` talk provides case by case
evidence that essentially proves that women are just as capable as men
in science. He talks about his own experience, having been female, and
now as a male scientist and how people automatically respect his
opinion more. Ben Barres is a female to male trangender Professor of
Neurobiology, who has an unparalleled standpoint on the issue of women
and science. His talk provides evidence against the popular opinion of
some important leaders in academia. It also provides a fascinating perspective on
being transgender.
